    Cape Cod Package Store
As one of the first liquor licenses to be issued in the Town of Barnstable after the repeal of prohibition, Cape Cod Package Store has quite a history in the village of Centerville. Owned and operated by the Pendergast family since 1939, Cape Cod Package Store has been in the wine & beverage retail business for 72 years. Jack and Sylvia Pendergast opened the original store at 404 Main Street in Centerville. In the early 1940’s, the business was moved to 1489 Falmouth Road on Route 28 (pictured above right) and later expanded to encompass the existing location, at 1495 Falmouth Road.

Here are Diane’s favorite whites for the month of June

Brancott “Flight Song ” Sauvignon Blanc . New Zealand

Light and lively kiwi and grapefruit notes dance upon the palate. Its bright acidity keeps this wine alive in your mouth and complements an array of foods. I recommend matching it with oysters, seared scallops and fried shrimp. If you like rich cheddar cheese, enjoy it with this Flight of Fancy. But, do stay away from really spicy foods. If you are watching your weight, this wine has about 20 percent less calories than an average white.

    Librandi Ciro, Calabria Italy
If you are searching for a new wine to liven up an evening, consider Ciro, which offers floral notes and a hedonistic aroma. It’s assertive on your palate with a healthy acidity. It’s profile is more interesting than a Pinot Grigio. Kick it up with something new – turn up the heat and pour a second glass.

Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
Loveblock is made by Kim Crawford, but since he sold his winery and thus his name, he calls this Sauvignon Blanc Loveblock. It’s not a typical New Zealand wine because there is more body and a roundness that pleases without making the Sauvignon Blanc fatty. I like to pair it with roast poultry and shellfish. It can even handle lobster.

Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc, Reserve South Africa
This grape of Vouvray often is presented in two different styles – dry or sweeter. This selection by Ken Forrester from South Africa delivers a world class Chenin on the dryer side. It’s an excellent aperitif, but it also can be served at dinner offering fish, poultry or even pork loin. You’ll encounter lovely fruit in the front, then a wave of crisp acidity and finally a finish dry enough to make you want another sip or more.

    Newton Chardonnay , Napa CA
This Chardonnay is round in the mouth and voluptuous, showing ripe melon fruit and other tropical notes. It is full bodied and wide on the palate, which makes it excellent paired with baked fish with lemon and herbs, white bean crostini and sauteed chicken with bechamel sauce.

    Sweet Bliss Pink, CA
This opulent and rich wine shows ripe strawberry fruit and an almost unctuous body. It may pair with spicy Thai take-out or Indian food. It’s also sweet sipper that could accompany a box of chocolates and a movie.

Jorge Ordonoz Malaga Dessert Wine , Spain
Jorge Ordonez S.L. is located in the mountains just above Malaga. This dessert wine is the collaborative effort of Jorge Ordonez and the world famous Alois Kracher from Austria. The vineyards were chosen because of their advanced age, the unique red slate soils and perfect micro climate. All the grapes are dried on the vines, with only those berries that are perfectly dried being selected. The wine is elegant, yet structured and abounds in aromas of fresh oranges and exotic spices.
