    There’s something for everyone at this year’s Windmill Weekend! Look below for a description and more information on all events.

    Sand Art Contest

    Sand-ArtThe contest takes place at First Encounter Beach on Saturday, September 6. Due to the time of low tide, this year Sand Art will be in the late afternoon. Registration will start at 3:30 p.m. Building will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Results will be announced at 7 p.m. > There will be 3 major groups for judging this year.

    • The BLUE group will be for kids 12 and under either individually or in pairs.
    • The GREEN group will be:
    • Teens 13 to 18 either individually or in pairs
    • An individual adult
    • Mixed age pair (ex. 1 adult and child under 18.)
    • The PINK group will consist of 2 or more adults, or family (group) of 3 or more people of any age.

    Awards will be given in all three groups. Also, a special award for “Best in Show” will be determined by the judges. The popular “Viewer Choice Award” will be determined by votes received (1 vote per person, please) by all who attend.

    Windmill Weekend Parade

    Cape Cod ParadeThis year, the parade will follow the new shorter route we used last year. The assembly areas are different from those in the past. State official have required that the parade route be shortened to reduce the time Route 6 is closed to traffic. To reach the assembly area, take Route 6 to Brackett Road, make a right at Old Orchard Road, and go past the Recycle Center where you will be greeted by a parade staffer. You will receive a postcard with your location number. The parade starts at 1 p.m. Parade assembly will begin after 11:30 a.m. New! Print the 2014 parade registration form now and return it no later than September 1.

    Public Notice: Are you planning to view the Windmill Weekend Parade?

    State Officials have required that the Parade Route be shortened to reduce the time Route 6 will be closed to traffic. “THE PARADE STARTS AT 1PM SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH AT ARNOLD’S RESTAURANT AND OLD ORCHARD ROAD.”

    Road Race

    Untitled-12Sunday morning, September 7. Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. at Nauset High School, on Cable Road. The entry fee is $20 for adults, and $10 for students. Runners under 12 are free. T-shirts are given to the first 120 paying participants who pre-register online, and are available on race day while supplies last. Pre-register for the Road Race by Printing out the registration form and mailing it in by September 1! Adult pre-registration costs $15. The first 120 pre-registrants get T-shirts.

    Two routes are available for the race. The 5 mile course starts at Nauset High School and takes a left onto Cable Rd. towards Nauset Light beach. Then it takes a right onto Ocean View Drive towards Coast Guard beach. Ocean View then becomes Doane Rd. and the runners go all the way to the National Seashore Visitor Center and take a right onto Schoolhouse Road. At the end of Schoolhouse they take a left onto Nauset Road. Then they take a right onto Cable Road. They take the first left into the school and proceed to finish from where they started. Two water stations are available on the route. T

    he 2 mile course follows the 5 mile course down to Nauset Light beach and takes a right onto Ocean View Drive. They go about two tenths of a mile down Ocean View and then turn around and head back to the school for the finish.   Runners participate in the following age groups:

    20th Annual Vehicle Show

    The Vehicle Show is held at the Orleans/Eastham Elks Lodge parking lot on Saturday, September 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plaques will be given to the first 75 vehicles that pre-register. All show vehicles will receive a “goodie bag” and choice of two hotdogs or two hamburgers per vehicle. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards are picked by people’s choice.

    There are stock muscle and modified car categories. The Outstanding pre-1942 and Outstanding post-1946 prizes are judged by a local garage owner. A Chairperson’s Choice award is picked by the Windmill Weekend Chair. There are many other trophies as well! All Classic and Antique Cars and Trucks are also invited to follow the Fire Trucks in the Eastham Windmill Weekend Parade Sunday September 8th.

    Directions for this section of the parade are Rt6 to Brackett Road East, Right onto Old Orchard Road and follow Classic and Antique signs.
