Old Schoolhouse Studio
This 19th century schoolhouse today is home for a group of Cape Cod artists who have turned classrooms built with huge windows into their own studios. On a recent visit, the Luxx Concierge met Richard Neal and Jackie Reeves, two of the resident artists hard at work on a brisk late fall day in their “Chalkboard Studio” where they split a high-ceilinged room with windows overlooking First Parish Cemetery.
Run by the non-profit Friends of the Schoolhouse, these artists often host open houses and encourage visitors to browse their works. This is a pretty informal locale, and finding the doors open for a visit can be hit or miss. But, it’s worth stopping by if you are driving through Barnstable Village in hopes of encountering one or more of the artists at work. They are most likely to welcome you and take you on a tour of the schoolhouse and share their art with you.…
